STRAIT UNDERCOVER

Visual Effects Production & Pipeline Development
CGI Nerd produced visual effects for the independent feature Strait Undercover, led by Alejandro Perez as VFX Lead.
The project
BRINGING THE
VISION TO
THE SCREEN.
CGI Nerd served as a visual effects production studio for the independent feature film Strait Undercover, delivering work across multiple VFX shots under the leadership of Alejandro Perez as VFX Lead.

From idea to image.
Shot-specific thinking.
A connected production process.
One film,
many kinds
of effects.
An independent feature rarely needs only one type of visual effect. Strait Undercover called for different visual treatments across the story, each with its own footage, timing and integration requirements. Coordinating those scenes as a cohesive body of work required a production approach that could handle variety without losing track of individual shot needs.
The challenge was to turn different creative requests into individual, deliverable shots through a repeatable process of planning, technical execution, review and revision.

SELECTED SHOTS.
From flocking and swarm work to action enhancement, title graphics and interface compositing.

Crow attack
A flock of digital crows descends around Nexxus in an outdoor sequence. The shot provides a clear example of agent-style movement, screen-space staging and the challenge of blending coordinated creature behavior into live-action footage.

Scarecrow encounter
The production’s scarecrow sequence includes a dramatic field action effect around Nexxus. It is a useful supporting example of how CGI Nerd approached a different kind of visual-effects shot within the same film.

Film title
The title transition provides a contrasting visual category within the production, connecting effects timing with graphic presentation.

Nexxus perspective
The Nexxus point-of-view sequence uses graphic overlays and compositing as another part of the film’s visual language.

Our process
FROM CONCEPT
TO FINAL
COMPOSITE.
Alejandro Perez worked directly with director Ben Gonyo to plan the desired look and creative goals of the visual effects. Alejandro then developed a practical approach for completing each shot, delegated selected supporting tasks to visual effects artist Pauline Rivera, and reviewed shots as the work progressed.
Alejandro personally handled the 3D work and final composites for CGI Nerd’s assigned shots. He and Ben reviewed the resulting shots together and agreed on required revisions. This close collaboration connected the director’s creative intent with CGI Nerd’s technical execution and finished deliveries.
